Ignorance is Remiss

 Hello Lovelies,

Having a very low moment:( It seems nothing has changed. There are regulations in place to accommodate the Disabled and (presumably) ensure that we are included in the day to day life of society--and yet society still refuses to acknowledge that we exist.

Earlier I read that a certain airline has made it possible for its back rows of seating to be folded down and turned into a bed for anyone who can pay for three seats. That extra room was intended to make air travel more accessible to the Disabled. It was intended for mobility aids and wheelchair users' comfort. How many ways can the airline industry tell us we're not welcome?

What if somebody without physical challenges bought the expansive seating just to accommodate them while they spread out across the row? The flight attendant's jump seats are in the very back as well would the Prince of the Back Row block them as well?

Having just returned from my own travel adventure that would not have otherwise been possible, this kind of thing rubs me raw. How dare they? How can we make the non-disabled understand what the Disabled go through? We're just trying to exist. Just trying to share the space. We have just as much right as they have.

This sounds like the arguments of Civil Rights activists throughout history--which is another wound. They've actually criminalized the instruction of struggle. What's that they've always said about those who refuse to learn from history? Hmm? Oh yeah; that they're doomed. Doomed to what? Repeat it. Right. Ignorance never goes away. Prejudice never ends. It just wears different costumes. Lines can't be drawn around racial or gender differences anymore (at least not in theory) so who's left? Who else doesn't look like those making up the rules? Who else can they "other" to suit them? Well, the Disabled.

Everybody get to the back of the bus. Or just sit where ever you can because your ease of use in this country doesn't matter. Our Rosa Parks will be born to sit down. And her rise will be a great day.
